Your Scar Revision Procedure

Scar revision can be performed in-office, at an outpatient surgical facility, or a local hospital, depending on the specific techniques utilized. When undergoing scar revision surgery, your scar revision surgeon may surgically reposition the existing scar tissue. This technique, also known as a Z-plasty, can make your scar less noticeable by giving it a Z-shaped pattern. In some cases, a W-plasty may be performed, which sculpts existing scar tissue in a W-shape to better camouflage your scar.

Laser scar treatments may also be used during your scar revision procedure. Laser technology delivers laser heat energy to your skin’s underlying layers, spurring on the production of new collagen to enhance skin structure and minimize scarring. Additionally, laser energy can resurface the initial layers of skin, which can improve the appearance of scar color and texture.
