Microdermabrasion For Improved Skin Tone

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a specialized non-invasive treatment that exfoliates damaged skin cells from the surface of your skin to enhance skin texture. This skin care technique can target superficial fine lines, acne inflammation, uneven skin tone, and sun damage for a smoother, younger-looking appearance. Unlike traditional dermabrasion treatments, which utilize a surgical blade or instrument to remove dead skin cells, microdermabrasion uses either microcrystals or microdiamonds to clear away skin cells. A series of non-surgical microdermabrasion treatments can achieve glowing skin without significant healing time.

Microdermabrasion At A Glance
Exfoliates the skin by removing damaged skin cells
Can improve the appearance of acne inflammation, sun damage, fine lines, and uneven pigmentation
Microcrystals or microdiamonds are used to improve complexion
Requires less healing time than traditional dermaplaning
Patients can usually resume daily activities immediately following microdermabrasion
Multiple sessions may be needed for best results

Your Microdermabrasion Procedure

Microdermabrasion can be performed in-office or at an outpatient surgical facility. During treatment, the microdermabrasion machine delivers microcrystals (or microdiamonds) to your skin using a specialized wand. The wand is gently passed over the treatment area to exfoliate your skin.

Microdermabrasion may be paired with a chemical peel, laser acne treatment, or another skin care procedure to achieve substantial enhancements to your skin texture.

Microdermabrasion Vs Dermabrasion

Microdermabrasion Dermabrasion
Treats the initial surface layer of skin for moderate improvements in complexion Reaches deeper skin layers for more pronounced results
Uses microdiamonds or microcrystals to remove damaged skin cells from the skin’s surface Exfoliates multiple skin layers using a surgical blade or dermabrader
Microdermabrasion requires virtually no recovery time Minimal healing time is needed following dermabrasion
Patients may experience slight redness or sensitivity following treatment Moderate sensitivity and redness are expected after dermabrasion

What To Expect After Undergoing Microdermabrasion

Patients undergoing microdermabrasion can expect slight redness and sensitivity to occur for a few days post-procedure. You can return to your daily routine immediately upon completing your microdermabrasion treatment. Aftercare instructions and timelines can be further discussed with your surgeon during your consultation.

Microdermabrasion can enhance skin tone and improve fine lines, acne, blemishes, or sun damage without the healing time of more invasive skin care techniques. Patients usually require multiple microdermabrasion sessions for best results.
