Fat Transfer - Fat Grafting For Adding Natural Volume

Fat Transfer

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer, or natural fat grafting, can restore natural-looking volume to the face and body using your own fat cells. Over time, aging can result in the loss of volume around the eyes, mouth, and cheeks. As volume decreases, facial folds and hollows may begin to form, along with unsightly wrinkles that contribute to an older-looking appearance. Additionally, the loss of youthful-looking fullness around the body may take away from definition and shape. Fat transfer can replenish facial volume and enhance body contours to combat these effects. During fat grafting, excess fat cells are taken from a donor location and then carefully injected into the desired areas to fill-in gaunt or thin areas. In addition to adding volume to the treatment site(s), patients can also slim down the donor area(s) in one procedure. Natural fat transfer offers a long-lasting solution that can restore a youthful-looking appearance to the face, breasts, hands, buttocks, and more.

Your Fat Grafting Procedure

Your fat grafting procedure may be performed either at an outpatient surgical facility or a local hospital, depending on your specific treatment. Your plastic surgeon will first take fat cells from a donor location with an ample amount of fat. Some possible donor locations include your abdomen, buttocks, or thighs. Using specialized liposuction techniques, fat cells are carefully extracted from these areas and preserved for the next part of your fat grafting procedure. Once fat cells are harvested, they are carefully reinjected into areas of the face or body that are lacking in definition. Nasolabial folds and facial wrinkles can be smoothed, while hollows and under-eye bags can be reduced using facial fat transfer. The breasts, buttocks, and hands can be volumized using fat grafting for the body.

Natural fat transfer can complement other facial rejuvenation and body contouring procedures, including facelift surgery, chin augmentation, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and buttock augmentation, among others.

Fat Transfer Treatment Areas

Fat Grafting For The Face Can fill fine lines, wrinkles, and facial hollows around the upper, mid, and lower face
Fat Transfer For The Hands Can improve thinning and reduce the appearance of underlying veins for smoother, younger-looking hands
Fat Grafting For The Breasts Can restore symmetrical volume and add shape to the breasts
Fat Transfer For The Buttocks Can enhance buttocks size and enhance definition

What To Expect After Undergoing Your Fat Transfer Procedure

Fat transfer patients can expect mild bruising or swelling around the treatment area(s) and donor site(s) upon the completion of their procedure. These effects may last for 1-2 weeks, on average. Patients can usually return to work within a few days of their fat grafting procedure. Your plastic surgeon can discuss exact timeframes during your fat transfer consultation.

Natural fat transfer can provide long-lasting volume for patients. Unlike cosmetic injectables, which temporarily improve definition, fat grafting can achieve results lasting years. The use of your body’s natural fat makes fat transfer an especially enticing option for patients who are hesitant to undergo traditional facial rejuvenation or body contouring surgery.
